Alice Backer
I reconnected with Ilene when she married a friend of mine from the New York Folk Singing Club. We hung out together until she moved back to Pittsburgh (Squirrel Hill) when her two children were ready for grade school. They moved to Phillips Ave. and her kids went to Colfax. She was diagnosed with early Dementia about seven years ago and spent the last three years in a Nursing Home. She was a generous and kind woman and she was very dedicated to her family and Judaism.
JoAnn Weinstein (Erfer)
So very sad.
Lois Fink
I did not know Ilene very well, but her diagnosis and passing saddens me greatly. Another life lost far too early. Another name to add to the In Memory for our class that is too long.
Harriet Perlman
So sorry to hear of Ilene's passing. She was a a very sweet person.
Sybil Fineberg (Porter)
I wasn't friends with Ilene, but appreciated her smiling face! Early Dementia is so tragic, takes so many far too early!
Carol Speizer (Schapira)
I am so sad to hear this. She was very kind and generous. I remember her well. I have a friend here who also died of this debilitating disease. Too sad to have to add another name to "In Memory".
Bob Markowitz
Bobby Markowitz. I took Ilene on several Bar Mittzvah dates when we were 13. She was also one of my dance partners in the fifth grade. I lost track of her after we graduated Allderdice. I am glad she had a good life. She was a wonderful person, and I am greatly saddened by her loss.
Marc Dinkin
So sad to read about Ilene. We shared so much through group experience. Always so pleasant and easy going and seemed to enjoyenjoy everything around her.
Martin Scoratow
I new Ilene from Colfax school through HS , her grandmother lived on Melvin St., she was always pleasant and had a smile on her face. She was a 'good' person.

Ilene was in our circle of friends so we all got to know each other well. I was exceptionally shy around girls and Ilene talked with me about my situation. She was so kind to me and so encouraging. Bobby Markowitz and Ilene were such good friends as he described above. It is especially harsh to lose an old girlfriend. I knew of her early onset dementia from friends and spoke with Ilene one time very early on in her disease. I was relieved to hear of her death because of her lost identity due to dementia. She died way too early. Steve Rosenfield
